To Ask That Crocodile Be Removed From List of
Endangered Species
Mexico announced it will seek
to remove the marsh crocodile from the endangered
species list because efforts to protect the
reptiles were succeddful, according to Felipe
Ramírez Ruiz, Director of Vida
Silvestre de Semarnat.
This
is the first time Mexico made a request of this
kind, he said. The formal request will be made
on June 20 in Montélimar (France).
Studies show 80 per cent of the
march crocodile population is stable, while
the rest are recovering, said Ramirez. The marsh
crocodile is also found in Belize and Guatemala.
